The machine has a cutter for the grass and a feed for directing and guiding the cuttings on to the ground into a swath of fixed volume, according to the speed of displacement of the cutter over the ground. The swath of cuttings is deposited on at least one side of the machine. The machine is fitted with an assembly (E), which divides and spreads the swath (A) of grass, behind the cutter, as it is driven along. The assembly is carried at the end of a linked arm (1) and has a rotor (2), fitted with teeth (3), which spread the grass cuttings to reduce the height of the swath and to increase its surface area, exposed to the sun, to improve its drying rate.
