The battery case (14) of, e.g. a motor-assisted bicycle (13) is engaged in a base-plate (39) and lodges against a spring-loaded throw-off bar (17) on the main frame tube (3). A lock (15), operated by the motor on/off key, inserts a bolt into the case top, securing it. The tether (20), running from an L-shaped end-tag (21) through the frame tubes (3, 4), connects (24, 25, 26) with a thinner cable (23) on an automatic retracting bobbin (22) under the seat (5). With no battery present, the tag fits a recess in the lock bolt, which is then retracted, securing the tether round e.g. a lamp-post. The battery, if present, is momentarily freed, the tag being trapped in the lock bracket (30) when the battery is re-locked.
