Production of a dye composition for keratin fibres, i.e. hair, eyelashes or eyebrows, involves (a) forming a colourant by reacting ferric, ferrous, cupric or cuprous salts with an acid hydrolysate of suitable plants or their extracts (where the hydrolysis releases phenols and phenol acids from their glycoside bonds), (b) optionally increasing the dyeing intensity by adding small quantities of tannic or gallic acid and (c) neutralising the obtained solution to pH 4.5-5.0 with a basic aminoacid. |
