INTRAMEDULLARY NAIL

An intramedullary nail (1) including an axial rod (2) supporting tubular spacers (9, 10) and expandable, releasable and interchangeable sleeves (3, 4) slidably mounted on the axial rod (2) between an axial abutment (6) and a control nut (8). Tightening the control nut (8) axially compresses the spacers (9, 10) and the expandable sleeves (3, 4), and thereby causes expansion of the expandable sleeves in order to lock the intramedullary nail (1) in the marrow cavity (11) of a bone (12). The expandable sleeves (3, 4) comprise a substantially continuous, tubular, flexible and expandable circumferential wall made of a biocompatible material and operative to prevent bone rehabitation inside the sleeves.
