A virus vector is disclosed for the transfer of stable episomes, i.e. extrachromosomal genetic elements. The invention has applications in medicine, in particular genetic therapy, and in medical-biological fundamental research. The object of the invention is to prolong by autonomous replication the function of a gene, which normally subsists only for a short time after viral gene transfer, and at the same time to effectively inhibit the expression of viral genes. The aim of the invention is to introduce by means of a virus into target cells a DNA whose replication cycle matches the cycle of said cells and which is introduced during nuclear division into the nucleus of the daughter cells. For this purpose, the disclosed virus vector for the transfer of stable episomes has a virus DNA, a DNA sequence that is autonomously replicable and into which the gene to be transferred is incorporated, at least 2 recognition sites for a specific recombinase, and if required a specific recombinase gene incorporated into the virus DNA.
