The invention calls for a method of obtaining 2-trifluoromethoxybenzene sulphonamide (I), used as an intermediate in the production of certain herbicidally active substances, in very high yields and in highly pure form by reacting halogenated trifluoromethoxybenzene sulphonamides of general formula (II), in which X1 is halogen and X2 is hydrogen or halogen, with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst and a diluant, and optionally in the presence of an acid acceptor, at temperatures between 0 and 200 ~C (dehalogenation), isolating the compound thus formed (I) in the usual way in the case when X2 = halogen or, in the case when X2 = H, converted into a pure, crystalline product by treating with a protonic polar oganic liquid and isolating by sucking off the liquids.
