The device includes a natural gas source with an output conduit presenting a valve and two manometers. A fuel tank (1) to be tested is surrounded by a polyethylene envelope (2), tight to natural gas, and buried in the ground (S). Input and output pipes are provided on the tank. The input pipe is connected to the conduit of the gas source. A gas sensor (2) is placed in the space between the tank wall and its envelope. A cable (3) connects the sensor to a measuring appts.
