<p>An electro-mechanical drive apparatus uses an electric drive motor (20) and three one-way clutches (42, 66, 74) to provide both injection and extruder functions in an injection unit (10) of an injection molding machine. During rotation of the drive motor in an injection direction, a third one-way clutch (42) engages, rotating a ball screw mechanism (32) which results in forward movement of a feed screw (14), a second one-way clutch (66) slips and a first one-way clutch (74) engages to prevent rotation of the feed screw as it moves forward. When the drive motor is rotated in an extrusion direction, the second one-way clutch engages, the first one-way clutch slips, and the third one-way clutch slips, allowing rotation of the ball screw mechanism commensurate with the rearward movement of the feed screw.</p> |
