Excess coating lacquer, in the form of an aerosol spray, is sucked by a fan (4) into a column (1) filled with filter material (2). A machine for making e.g. compact discs (CDs) comprises a vacuum chamber for carrying out a number of processing steps, with discs being transported from one step to another. One of these steps comprises coating a disc with curable lacquer and rotating it in order to achieve a uniform coating and remove excess lacquer by centrifugal force. Connected to this machine at point roughly below the disc coating position is a vertical column filled with finely distributed, rust-free filter material, preferably stainless steel wool with a given elasticity. A fan sucks the aerosol of excess lacquer through the column, where it is collected by the filter material and then made to run down into a collection vessel (5) at the bottom. Clean air is also sucked out of the column into the surrounding atmosphere. |
