PURPOSE:To eliminate a fine orientation defect and to improve bistability by specifying the quantity density of fine orientation defects in ferroelectric liquid crystal and variation ranges of fmax and fmin. CONSTITUTION:This element is so constituted that the quantity density of fine orientation defects (zig-zag dislocation) in the ferroelectric liquid crystal is <=15 defects/0.16mm<2> and the overlap between the variation width of the maxi mum driving frequency (fmax) at which the maximum illumination/nonillumination contrast ratio is obtained and the variation width of the driving frequency (fmin) at which the contrast ratio begins to vary at a voltage + or -Vh applied in a unselected state is <=2kHz. Consequently, there is no fine defect orientation defect at the periphery of an epoxy-based bead powdery adhesive and the bistability becomes superior. |
