In a stereoscopic distance measurement system using two spaced cameras, images are stored in two stores; one is used to obtain distances to objects in the field of view, whilst the other is used to control the shutter speed of the cameras. In at least one zone in one store, the frequency distribution is calculate and a brightness histogram is produced to control the shutter speed. The images in the other store are correlated to give range. Use of two independently readable stores allows faster processing. |
