A machine tool having a turret head 1 which can be rotated to index one of tool mounting members 10 into a machining position A has a first supporting body 7 which is connected to a moving mechanism that advances or retracts the turret head 1 along an axis coinciding with the axis of the tool mounting member 10 at the machining position. A second supporting body 8 movable along the axis of machining is supported on the first supporting body 7, and the turret head 1 is rotatably supported on the second supporting body 8 for indexing. A spindle head (12, Fig.4) is fixed to the first supporting body 7, and a spindle (13, Fig. 4) is supported on the spindle head 12. A tool holder 11 to be held by the tool mounting member 10 is engaged with or detached from the spindle 13 by the movement of the second supporting body 8 relative to the first supporting body 7. |
