A windscreen wiper mechanism 38 comprises locking means which prevents reverse rotation of the mechanism when, for example, travelling at high speed during storms. The locking means comprises a locking pin 64 engaging a notch 94 on a lower half of crank plate 69 and a stop pin 100 which abuts cammed surface 104. A depressed parking position is achieved by reversing motor (40, fig 1) which causes the locking pin 64 to engage latch arm 46 and on further rotation pin 64 disengages, via the action of latch arm 46, with notch 94, thereby allowing crank plate 69 to rotate independently of base plate 76. The crank plate 69 is eccentrically mounted on shaft 42 which allows the crank plate 69 to rotate 180{, thereby providing a translation of the base plate 76 (in direction L, fig 11A) without rotation. This translation causes wipers (12, fig 1) to move to a depressed park position (see fig 1). In normal wiper mode the stop pin 100 drives, via cammed surface 104, the crank plate 76 while the locking pin 64 rotates over the latch arm 46 causing it to pivot about point 48 against the action of spring 52. |
