The device comprises a connector which fixes the crutches (A,B) together. One crutch is fixed to the other by means of shaped locations which hold them together in one or more fixed positions. On the shaft of one of the crutches is a mounting part (12) which contains a mounting hole (27). The other shaft has an insert part which has a projecting piece on it which is held in the mounting hole by spring or magnetic force.
