A band 1 of crimped continuous filaments is fed into a nozzle-shaped member 6 in which an air jet from space 35 pushes the filaments through the nozzle into rod-forming and wrapping means 9. Compressed air is fed through a pipe 7 to the annular space 35. The filaments are preferably cellulose acetate filaments of between 1 and 16 denier or polyester filaments.
