A portable computer includes a base unit (2) for mounting a keyboard (7) and a display unit (3). The base unit (2) includes a bottom plate (15). A receiving portion (25) in which a hard-disk drive device (HDD) (16) is detachably mounted is formed in the bottom plate (15). The HDD (16) is formed into a unit as a module and has a first connector (24). The receiving portion (25) of the base unit (2) includes a second connector (31) to be electrically connected to the first connector (24), a lock mechanism (68) which is engaged with the HDD (16) to confine the HDD (16) in the receiving portion (25), and a switch (100) which is operated upon a lock operation of the lock mechanism (68) so as to allow current supply to the HDD (16). The HDD (16) is fixed to the receiving portion (25) by a screw (78). The screw (78) is engaged with the lock mechanism (68) to hold the lock mechanism (68) in a state wherein the HDD (16) is locked to the receiving portion (25).
