The sharp edge (2) integrated with the transverse underside of the fuel tank (1) is designed so as to part the air flow (10) on the tank underside so it flows round the following component without turbulence. The tear-off edge should be in rounded form with radius r = 5 + 2 mm and should be arranged as far as possible to the rear towards the rearward facing endface (5) of the tank. The edge presents a surface (6) at a shallow angle to the road and radiused (r') and is adjoined by vertical face (7) forming a step (8) with the transition surface (3). Travel direction is denoted by (9) and the air flow by (10). In the case of blow-moulded plastics tanks, the edge is necessarily formed by the thin curved areas of the moulding, using in this case the preferred radius limits of 5 + 2 mm and edge vertical length (s) equal to 10 mm.
