Starting reaction of finely divided thermal alumino mixture

Two rod shaped electrodes (12,13) are inserted in the mixture (7). The electrodes are spaced apart at a distance of 3 to 10 mm when a high power source is used generating a current of more than 20 amp. Alternately the electrodes can be spaced closer together so that a 12 Volt battery can be used. The electrodes can be brought closer together, while in the mixture, till the spark is generated.
