The multi-speed play control device in a video cassette recorder having a display unit for displaying video signals, has a storing unit for storing the frame data as much as the number of multi-speed controlled by a user after dividing the data by a frame unit; a demultiplexer for selectively transferring the played video signals to the storing unit by a frame unit; a multiplexer for transferring the data stored at the storing unit to the display unit in a controlled multi-speed; and a selector for transferring the played video signals to the multiplexer if a predetermined number of multi-speed play control command is applied by the user and transferring the played video signals to the display unit if the multi-speed play control command is not applied.
