PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely move a carriage to a cartridge exchange position only when it is necessary without losing operability. SOLUTION: A carriage 50 holding a recording head cartridge 7 detachably is supported to be able to reciprocate along a guide shaft 81. A photosensor 55 is set at a rear face of the carriage 50. At a home position of the carriage 50, a light-shielding plate 12 for use in exchanging of the cartridge is installed at a part of a chassis 8 opposed to the photosensor 55. When the recording head cartridge 7 is pressed in a direction of an arrow B, the carriage 50 is rotated about the guide shaft 81, so that the photosensor 55 is shut by the light-shielding plate 12. A detecting signal is output from the photosensor 55. When the detecting signal is output, the carriage 55 is moved to a cartridge exchange position. |
