Disclosed is a system for driving a reel of a VCR deck mechanism. A different size of cassette is selectively driven via an idler gear and both sides of a middle gear which is geared into the idler gear by using a capstan motor as a driving source. The system comprises the middle gear which is vertically assigned to the middle of a line mutually connecting the center of the reel of a small cassette to a standard cassette. Thus, the structure of the reel driving system becomes greatly simple.
