FIELD: production of synthetic rubbers; petrochemical industry. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is based on copolymerization of styrene and butadiene in hydrocarbon solvent. Process is conducted in several in-series connected reactors, at temperature 10-150 C, in presence of lithiumorganic initiating agent and of potassium phenolate, e.g. potassium styrylphenolate used as co-catalyst, said components being taken in molar ratio of initiating agent-to-potassium phenolate of from 0.04 to 0.2. Inventive novelty of proposed method resides in fact that potassium phenolate is added into last-in-series reactor in amount (0.01-0.5)% based on total weight of monomers. If necessary, potassium phenolate is added in mixture with synthetic fatty acids of general formula RCOOH, wherein R is Calkyl, fatty acids being proportioned so as to be present in amount (0.005-0.8)% based on total weight of monomers.
