PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the derivability of a vehicle by appropriately selecting the gear ratio of a CVT and the coast traveling condition so as to meet the traveling feeling of a driver during the manual operation. SOLUTION: A CVT is automatically shift controlled by the accelerator opening and the vehicle speed by setting the automatic mode in the normal traveling of the vehicle to select the economy mode or the power mode. When the acceleration mode/slope-climbing mode is set by the operation of a shift lever 22b or the operation to a guide groove 36..., the CVT is manually operated to obtain the desired acceleration or torque. Even when in the coast condition, a one-way clutch is interposed, and no engine brake is applied. When the deceleration mode/slope-descending mode is set by the operation of a shift lever 22c or the operation to a guide groove 37..., the CVT is manually operated, and an accelerator pedal is loosened in a general practice, and the throttle opening is reduced to zero or the like.
