PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a flame for analysis in safety at low cost through a small and lightweight equipment by employing a mixed gas of hydrogen and oxygen generated through electrolysis of water as a flammable mixture gas to be mixed with a sample. SOLUTION: The vessel 10 for a water electrolytic unit 2 is filled with water 11 containing KOH and a current is fed to a mesh electrode 12 to produce a mixture gas of H2 /O2 which is then filtered through a Teflon membrane 14 and introduced to a chamber 16 filled with silica gel and dried. The dried mixture gas is introduced through a flow limiter 17 to a duct 18 where it is admixed with a column or a sample gas to be analyzed flowing through a pipe 19 and ignited 32 to generate a flame. The flame is fed with an auxiliary air from a source 22 through a control valve 23 and charge carriers, produced by the flame, are collected to a current collecting electrode 27 to generate a current. The current is amplified 28 and processed 29 to analyze the characteristies of the flame thus determining the presence of a chemical substance in a sample gas and the concentration thereof. |
