The vehicle anti-theft device consists of a lock (10), operated by a key (11) and fitted with a bolt (12). The bolt is able to move between a positions, where it locks or unlocks the gear lever (1). The gear lever is designed to pivot around a horizontal axis, is able to move between several positions and is connected to the gear box by the transmission (5). The gear lever and the lock are mounted on a support bracket (3), which is fixed to part (4) of the vehicle structure. The bolt of the lock engages into a locking element (15), which is solidly fixed to the gear lever. The axis of rotation of the lock passes close to the pivot axis of the gear lever and is perpendicular to the pivot axis.
