Data demodulator for data read from recording medium

The demodulator includes a signal processor (101) which processes the data signals read from a recording medium (103) as a function of changes in their frequency or amplitude to process a data signal which is suited to demodulation. The processed signal is then demodulated (108) to make the data available. The signal processor has a variable gain amplifier (105) which delivers a constant amplifier signal. A filter (106) automatically adjusts the sampling frequency as a function of the reading position offset. A comparator (107) converts the incoming analogue signal to a pulse signal.
