A wear indicator consists of one or more elements of different colours to the tyre which can be incorporated in the tread during or after moulding and which become apparent as the tyre wears down. The indicator elements can be made from rubber or a similar natural or synthetic material, and they can be either in graduated colours or different colours to show different degrees of wear. They can also be incorporated in the treads of retreaded tyres, and should be visible when the vehicle is stationary or on the move.
