The building (1) has a basement section (2), a floor (3), outer walls and a roof (4,5). It incorporates systems for the production (23,24) and storage (25) of heat and/or electrical energy, and has ballast (12) in the form of a storage tank in the basement which does away with the need for foundations. The energy production and storage systems consist of solar panels (23) which are incorporated at least in the building's south-facing wall, and a storage tank (25) which is linked to the panels and stores heat for later release into the building, e.g. in the form of water heated in the panels. The tank, which is made from a synthetic material such as polyethylene, is surrounded by a thick layer of thermal insulation material (27).
