Selective production of hydroxymethyl-furfural

摘要

Selective preparation of hydroxymethyl-furfural (I) comprises hydroxymethylation of furfural (II) with formaldehyde (III) in presence of at least one microporous solid catalyst (A) that favours formation of monomeric (I) while preventing formation of dimers, polymers and cyclic condensation products. Also claimed is the equipment for this process.
