Ultrasound converter e.g. for non-destructive testing

The ultrasound converter elements are bipolar and are disposed in a two-dimensional ultrasound array. Each converter has at least two piezoelectric elements. The piezoelectric elements have opposing polarities and has active surfaces separated from each other. The piezoelectric elements are switched to one common switching point. The outer partial elements have smaller active surfaces than the central partial elements and are symmetrically arranged w.r.t. the central partial elements in parallel lines.
