A counting device detects intensity differences in reflections coming from stacked thin objects and possesses a radiation source (11) generating a radiation beam (12), photoelectric detection means (13) detecting the intensity differences in the radiation reflected by the objects and is provided with optical means (15-17) placed between said objects and the photoelectric detection means. The optical means comprise a diaphragm (15) having a diaphragm opening which in relation to the dimension of the beam of reflected radiation reaching the diaphragm, is smaller (pinhole).
