The seat back has a transverse support (4) connecting the side spars (3) of the seat extends inside the seat back (2) in an area which extends from the upper limit of the pelvic bone to below the first costal arch of the sitting person. The transverse support is form-stiffened and profiled in cross-section. The transverse support carries a convexly curved cushion on its side facing the sitting person. The transverse support and/or the curved cushion is height adjustable inside the seat back parallel to the side spars.
