<p>A rolling and brushing apparatus for forming pictures or patterns on lawns is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a front roller (7) and a transverse rotary rear brush (3) as well as a plurality of horizontal sliding plates (14) therebetween. A picture and/or a pattern is input into a computer (38, 36) which then breaks down the picture and/or pattern into a plurality of picture elements. A sensor (38) connected to the roller measures the distance covered and transmits it to the computer. When the apparatus is moved forward, the roller (7) flattens the grass. The computer uses hydraulic cylinders (34) to control the motion of the plates (14) under the brush bristles depending on the distance covered and the recorded picture. When a plate is underneath the brush, it raises the bristles and prevents them from contacting the grass. When the plate is withdrawn, the bristles contact the grass and raise the blades of grass in the area thereby exposed. Each area corresponds to one of the picture elements recorded in the computer. The picture is thus reproduced on the ground by means of the contrast between the areas where the grass has been raised and those where the grass has not been raised after being flattened by the roller.</p> |
