The invention relates to cross-linked polymers which absorb aqueous liquids, are built up from partially neutralised monomers containing monoethylenically unsaturated acid groups, (optionally) from further monomers which may be copolymerised therewith, and (optionally) suitable polymers as a graft base, and can be produced with the aid of cross-linking agents from multiply unsaturated amino alcohols. The cross-linking agents used are reaction products of (meth-)allylamines with monoglycidyl compounds, di-, tri- or tetraglycidyl compounds and optionally alkylene oxide, reaction products of (meth-)allylamines or saturated primary amines with (meth-)acrylglycid esters and/or (meth-)allylglycid ethers and optionally alkylene oxide and reaction products of di- or polyamines with (meth-)allylglycid esters and/or (meth-)acrylglycid esters and optionally alkylene oxide. With these polymers, super-absorbers can be obtained which meet practical requirements in terms of retention, absorption under pressure, swelling pressure and permeability for aqueous liquids. Polymers of this type are used as absorbents for water and aqueous liquids in structures used for absorbing body fluids, in power or optical cables and in plant breeding.
