A limb (B) is separated from a living plant by being twisted about an axis (A) and possibly pulled, using two jaws (6, 7) adapted to clamp said limb (B) and then to be rotated about said axis (A) to an extent sufficient to sever said limb (B) from the mother plant (not shown). In the embodiment of a hand implement shown, the jaws (6, 7) are operated to open and close by means of a push rod (20) actuated by a finger lever (15), and their rotation is provided by an electric motor (8) driving a spindle (21) carrying the jaws (6, 7) through bevel gears (28, 29). The invention makes it possible to separate limbs from a living plant practically as gently as hitherto has only been possible with manual work, at the same time relieving the persons doing this work of the fatigue associated with manual twisting and pulling hundreds or even thousands of times a day.
|
