Apparatus for measurement of carbon dioxide concentration in gases

The apparatus includes a galvanic CO2-sensing cell with a carbonate-free Na<+>-ion-conducting solid electrolyte (1) and two mixed-solid electrodes (2,3) both containing powdered precious metal and finely-divided O2<-->-ion-conducting solid electrolyte. Particles of this are porous and the other electrolyte is a gastight sintered mixture of alpha - and beta -Al2O3. The gas passes through a particulate mass of combustion catalyst (9) and SO2-reactant carbonate (10) to the cell, which occupies a substantially isothermal region of a heater (11) which maintains a temperature between 550 and 800 deg. C.
