An intelligent information router system (42) comprising a telephony controller (58) coupled to a private branch exchange (14) through a link interface (40). The telephony controller (58) may communicate with a handle manager (64) and a script interpreter engine (65). The telephony controller (58) may receive information from the link interface (40) regarding telephone calls being placed to the private branch exchange (14). The telephony controller (58) may initiate actions with the script interpreter engine (65) that access information stored in a database through a database controller (66). In response to action of the script interpreter engine (65), the telephony controller (58) may instruct the private branch exchange (14) to route the call to an appropriate location within a company depending on the information received by the private branch exchange (14) through automatic transmission of data or interaction with the calling party.
