Removing halogen(s) and their compounds from thermoplastics

An industrial process for removing reactively- or additively-combined halogens and halogen compounds (I) from thermoplastics without damaging the material comprises pulverising the plastic, dissolving it rapidly in a liquid medium at elevated temperature and adding a substance (II) which brings about quantitative dehalogenation of the plastic in not more than 1 hr., so that (I) and other additives can be recovered separately.
