Disclosed is an apparatus for controlling on and off of an AV system which reads an information recorded in a predetermined information recording media and outputs as a video signal or an audio signal comprising an infrared ray generation portion(10) which generates an infrared ray according to detection of light quantity of the position of the AV system, an infrared ray reception portion(20) which receives an infrared ray from the infrared ray generation portion(10), an on and off control portion(30) which outputs a control signal based on the infrared ray receipt state of the infrared ray receipt portion(20), an on and off driving portion(40) which is driven by receiving the control signal, and an on and off means(50) which is on and off by driving of the on and off driving portion(40). Thus, the AV system can be correctly and conveniently operated in the dark state of periphery.
