The invention relates to cuboid-shaped packets (1) with loose bulk material and still open at the top. The said packets are transferred from a first linear conveyor (12) to a rotating intermediate conveyor (13) which transfers the packets to a revolving table (57). Vacuum hoods (81) are arranged on the revolving table (57) at regular intervals and are lowered after the transfer operation. The packets (1) are evacuated and compressed when in the one horizontal direction and held when in the second horizontal direction. After transverse sealing, the packets (1) are returned to the linear conveyor (12) by a second intermediate conveyor (15). The continuous operation of the conveyor achieved by the above device results in a high rate of production with careful handling of the packets.
