Vehicle immobilizer with override means

An immobilizing system for a vehicle comprises a portable transmitter (22) capable of transmitting a code to a vehicle at a distance, and an immobilizer (23) in the vehicle for immobilizing it and enabling it for travel on receipt of an authorised code from the transmitter. The transmitter (22) is also activated to generate the authorised code when it is connected to an interface (21) of the immobilizer.
