There is provided novel piperazinyl benzamide derivatives having the general Formula I I wherein R1 and R2 each are independently hydrogen, methoxy, halogen or R1 and R2, taken together, may be methylenedioxy; and R3 and R4 each are independently hydrogen, halogen or methoxy provided that both R3 and R4 are not hydrogen; or a nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable salt and/or hydrate thereof which are useful as anxiolytic agents having a sedative component.
