A mixture of a sulphochlorinated polyolefin with a sulphochlorination product of a C10 to C30 aliphatic or unsaturated hydrocarbon and/or a C10 to C25 araliphatic hydrocarbon and/or a C3 to C10 aliphatic substituted cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon, may be obtained by mixing the components (e.g. by milling) or by sulphochlorination of a polyolefin/hydrocarbon mixture (e.g. the mixture obtained in the manufacture of the polyolefin). The polyolefin and/or the hydrocarbon may be pre-chlorinated. Specified polymers are those of ethylene, propylene, butene, pentene and mixtures thereof, and the preferred hydrocarbons are petroleum fractions (180 DEG -250 DEG C.), diisopropyl toluene and dodecyl benzene. In examples sulphochlorination is carried out in carbon tetrachloride and may be catalyzed by U.V. light. The products may be formed into sheet and vulcanized and compounded with ingredients selected from litharge, pigments, stearic acid, abietic acid, mercaptobenzthiazole and dipentamethylene thiuram tetrasulphide.
