PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound excellent in inhibitory action against elastase, high in safety, suitable for oral administration and useful for therapy and/or prevention of pulmonary emphysema, chronic rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis and adult respiratory distress. SOLUTION: This new compound is a sulfonamide derivative of formula I [R<1> is a 1-8C alkyl, a 1-8C alkoxy, hydroxyl, keto, nitro, halogen, cyano., etc.; R<2> and R<3> are each H, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy, halogen, trihalomethyl, etc.; ring D is carbocyclic or heterocyclic; R<4> is a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy, etc.; (m) is an integer of 0, 1-4; R<5> and R<6> are each H, a 1-8C alkyl, etc.; (n) is an integer of 0, 1-5], its nontoxic salt or acid added salt, e.g. compound of formula II. The compound of formula I is obtained by e.g. sulfuric acid esterification of the corresponding compound. |
