PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve characteristics such as electric conductivity, when carbon fibers from the gas phase are used as a filler for composite materials. SOLUTION: This carbon fiber material consists mainly of a flock-like or fiber ball-like structure products each having a size of 5-500μm, and comprising the coagulation products of gas phase carbon fibers each having a thickness of 0.05-5μm. The mutual contact parts of the carbon fibers in the coagulation products are adhered to each other with a carbonization material such as tar, pitch, etc. The method for producing the carbon fiber material comprises press- molding the above-mentioned carbon fibers and subsequently heating the molded product having a bulk-density of >=0.02g/cm<3> at >=600 deg.C, or press-molding the above-mentioned fibers in a pressure of >=0.1kg/cm<2> , simultaneously heating the molded product at >=600 deg.C and subsequently crashing the molded product. |
