PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an organic thin-film luminescent element free from the growth of dark spot and having stable picture quality. SOLUTION: This organic thin-film luminescent element is produced by placing at least a luminescent layer 4 among a hole-injection layer 3, a luminescent layer 4 and an electron-injection layer 5 between a pair of electrode layers, laminating the layers on a substrate 1 and coating the laminate with a protecting layer 7 and then with a sealing layer 8. The protecting layer 7 is composed mainly of a perylene compound expressed by the formula.
