PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily estimate the electrolyte retaining amount of a rib-furnished reservoir plate without decomposition of a stack. SOLUTION: A fuel cell concerned includes unit cells 2 formed in a stack 1 and composed of a rib-furnished reservoir plate 23 which is laminated between unit cell and separator plate 6 to retain the electrolyte and an electrolyte refilling device to refill the electrolyte to the matrix 3 during operation from the outside through the reservoir plate 23, and the electrolyte retaining amount of the reservoir 23 is monitored. An electrolyte monitoring member 31 consisting of a porous piece having a cappilery force to the same degree as the reservoir plate 23 and a known weight before impregnation with electrolyte is put in tight attachment removably through utilization of a gas supply groove 4A, etc., provided in the reservoir plate 23, and an electrolyte managing member taken out at pause is weighed for determination of the rate of electrolyte retention, and therefrom the rate of retention of the reservoir plate 23 is presumed. |
