PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method efficiently producing PHB from the cyanophycean algae at a high yield. SOLUTION: A gene-recombinant the cyanophycean algae genus Synechococcus sp., containing a recombinant plasmid integrating a structural gene group coding for an enzyme group composed ofβ-ketothiolase, acetoacetyl CoA reductase and polyhydroxybutyrate polymerase and having poly-β- hydroxybutyric acid productivity is cultured in a medium added with acetic acid, and furthermore in a medium restricted of a nitrogen source to obtain the objective poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid.
