摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent impression voltage from being heightened by enhancing the brightness of an EL element without dropping the dielectric withstand voltage through utilization of a reflection layer. SOLUTION: On the outside of a transparent electrode, a light reflective surface 2 is provided with a thin layer 3 of insulative substance interposed so that the brightness of EL element 10 is enhanced, as such metals as Al, Ag, Cu, Au, Ni, Ta, W, Mo have good reflectance. The layer 3 is made thin, for example 5μm or less, so that the reflection is made to the light led out side without formation of multiple images, and thereby the brightness is enhanced. Examples of insulative substance are SiON, SiN, SiO2 , Ta2 O5 , Al2 O3 , which are used individually as a layer or layers prepared by laminating a plurality of the insulative substances, and the layer of insulatrive substance can be formed even from a reflex increase film using the interference of a low refractive index insulative layer with a high refractive index insulative layer or from an anode oxide film as material of the light reflective surface. The light reflective surface may be formed on either side of an insulative substrate, and in the case of the rear, the thickness is made small 100μm or below.
