FIELD: mechanical engineering; transmissions for bicycles and velomobiles; drives of different mechanisms and machines, even gearboxes of automobiles. SUBSTANCE: pedal drive has drive shaft, driving and driven gears, planet pinions and carrier, all mounted in reduction gear housing. Drive shaft is installed so that its ends project beyond the outlines of reduction gear. Pedals are fitted on shaft ends. Lock is mounted on housing. Carrier or driven gear are alternately locked by this lock. Carrier is installed on rotating supports on drive shaft. Hollow shaft is installed coaxially on drive shaft to transmit rotary motion from carrier. Hollow shaft engages through spline joint with carrier. overrunning clutch is mounted on output end of hollow shaft. Driven gear is installed on rotary supports on hollow shaft of carrier and reduction gear housing. Overrunning clutch is mounted on output end. This clutch is installed coaxially with overrunning clutch on hollow shaft of carrier. Driving sprocket of chain drive is installed together with hub on overrunning clutches. Driving sprocket of chain drive is set into rotation either by hollow shaft of carrier or by driven gear of reduction gear, depending on state (fixing) of carrier or driven gear of reduction gear.
